Trucking Industry Embodies the Spirit of the Holidays

Around Thanksgiving, we discussed both what cheer truckers bring to our nation, as well as how the public returns that cheer to truck drivers.  The many different programs and volunteer efforts are so inspiring that they deserve a second look! As you enjoy your holiday meal and the many wonders of the season, don’t forget to take a moment to appreciate those that make it all possible. Because no one captures the spirit of the holidays like truck drivers!

Trucking Industry Helps Wreaths Across America Reach Goal!

When we last talked about Wreaths Across America, it was just two weeks before the December 13th wreath laying ceremonies that takes place around the nation. The organization had high aspirations for this year’s honoring of fallen soldiers and hoped to be able to lay a wreath on every headstone in the Arlington National Cemetery. With the help of countless trucks, truck drivers and the entire trucking industry, this goal was met!

283 truckloads of wreaths were transported across the country, with expenses and time donated by many. Over 230,000 wreaths were placed on each and every headstone in Arlington, with over 720,000 fallen soldiers honored all together in the U.S.. 88 trucking companies partnered with Wreaths Across America to make this happen, and everyone involved deserves a big round of applause for their dedicated efforts!

Owner-Operators and Truckers For Troops

Wreaths Across America isn’t the only way that our nation’s truckers give back to our armed forces. Truckers for Troops was started 7 years ago by the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA) to send care packages to combat zones. Since then, more than 2,500 packages have been distributed to 30,000 troops! This year, the group has raised over $52,000 and will begin sending diversely filled packages in January.

The Trucking Industry Delivers!

The good will and holiday cheer that the trucking industry spreads is so wide and so large that it’s hard to even capture with just words. And speaking of big – the Minnesota Trucking Association plays a huge holiday role by delivering the 75 foot U.S. Capitol Christmas tree across the country. The tree was lit in the beginning of the month, following a cutting ceremony and 30 celebrations on the journey.

Additionally, countless holiday parades are held by the trucking industry across the continent. Trucks gather together, festive with decorations and lights, to put on the parades. Many of these gatherings are dedicated to a cause, such as ending child hunger and supporting children with special needs. Not to mention how much holiday spirit they bring to parade watchers! After all, a lit up semi-truck is quite the sight to see!

And let’s not forget that, as we sip our egg nog, open presents and enjoy a holiday feast, a truck driver delivered each and every item we touch. From the wrapping paper and tinsel to the Christmas tree and the ham, a trucker made it happen. Whether hauling long-distance or intrastate routes, these hard workers deserve our appreciation. So for this holiday season, Office Tenders would like to say:

Happy Holiday to All Truck Drivers, Trucking Companies and the Whole Trucking Industry!
